I started studying nutrition as a freelance journalist, specialising in food history and culture, with a focus on how local culinary traditions define people’s identities and society. Since 2005, I have been traveling the world in order to study the role of food and nutrition as tools for gender equality and women’s empowerment in developing nations. As a certified private chef since 2006, I have been regularly working in Italy and abroad (B&H, Uruguay, Tanzania, Germany, US, Canada) cooking privately and teaching cooking classes focused on Italian regional traditions, the history and usage of local ingredients, techniques and chemistry of aromatic compounds.
I’m currently teaching at Cordon Bleu Cooking School in Florence and at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo (Master program in Food Culture, Communication & Marketing | subject: Communication Skills: Food, Culture and Society) and leading food and wine tours in Tuscany (license n. 2544/17)
Chef Serena prepared a traditional Tuscan Easter dinner for my family of 6 on Easter Sunday while we were staying just outside of Florence. The communication was great, the preparations were great, and the four course meal was amazing! Fried artichokes was a family favorite. Great pairing with white and red wines, and local organic apple juice for the young kids! My family loves the meal and the whole experience of having dinner prepared in our home!
